Tenacious Outcasts Rally in 5th to Beat Alna

The Pretender Outcasts did not surrender after allowing four runs in the first inning, and instead persevered to chip away at Alna's early lead and tie the contest in the bottom of the 4th. The 5th inning proved to be the turning point as the Outcasts overtook the Dominican/Cuban squad and went on to win 16-12.

Down by one run In the 5th inning, the Outcasts could sense a rally starting when Anthony Durham led off with yet another hit-by-pitch and then scored after a steal and two wild pitches. Outcast batters would blow open the game with 5 hits, a walk, two HBPs and aggressive baserunning (6 steals!) to plate 9 runs in the inning.

The onslaught chased Alna’s starting pitcher and made a winner of Outcast SP Darren McKellep, who was pitching on 3 days' rest after Saturday's 8-7 loss. When Darren tired in the 6th, Glenn Wells took the mound and got the final 5 outs for the save.

Erik the Swede Svensson filled in ably at catcher, calling a smart game and scoring the first Outcast run on RF Hans Henrik’s single in the 2nd... Leadoff hitter 2B Glenn went 3 for 4 and scored 3 times, while Matt Connell played a solid 1B and drove in 2 runs on 3 singles… 3B/2B Florentino Hernandez produced nicely from the cleanup spot with 3 RBIs on two singles… SS Leif Petter Sandvik, on loan from the Pretender Rascals, slugged 3 hits, two of which were liners off the fence in left-center… Outfielders Erik Jansen, Erik McKellep, HH Petersen and Anthony manned their positions well to contain the hard-hitting Dominicans.

Anthony was beaned twice in this game (eventually scoring both times), raising his season HBP record to an impressive total of 7 in 10 games played.
