Recent Recap from P-Hoopsters

The Pretenders have played on three consecutive Sundays, going 2-1 over that time.

- By Glenn Wells, February 4th 2014

The P-Hoopsters seem happy to have returned to their true home court at Vulkanhallen since its repair after its roof was blown off (not really any surprise given the name), having taken two out of three games in the face of stiff competition.

19 Jan. versus Kolbotn . 65-54.

The Pretenders pull out a 11-point win to secure their first victory over Kolbotn ever (4 games over last two seasons). Kolbotn was without their stalwart tower, which was definitely in our favor as he's one of the best players we've faced in the league. Kelly made his only appearance of 2014 so far but didn't have to grab the spotlight as everyone pitched in to reward the team effort with a V. Siggy dropped 15 points, Jeremy 10, Robert 11, Ivan 10; Kelly 7, Dave 4, Rich 4, Jim 2 and Or 1, which adds up to 64, but I ain't quibbling.

26 Jan. versus Halden. 50-51.

Halden turned the tables on the Pretenders to secure their first victory over the P-Hoopsters ever (4 games over last two seasons). The Pretenders played a solid game and led for the majority of the game. Halden managed to keep it close enough throughout so that they could eke out the victory with 2.9 seconds left. After the Pretenders failed to get a shot off in 24 seconds while leading by 2, Halden called a time-out with 2.9 seconds to go. They passed it in from half-court after setting two key picks to free up their shooter, who then dashed the hopes of the Pretenders by sinking a 3-pointer to take the lead 51-50 with only 0.2 seconds remaining.

1 Feb. versus Nittedal. 52-50.

The two teams have squared off six times over the three seasons of the P-Hoopsters' existence, with Nittedal prevailing in four of those contests. This time, the Pretenders fought well in an even game. The largest point deficit was six points, as Nittedal entered the fourth quarter in the lead 39-33. Down 42-37 two minutes into the quarter, the Pretenders went on a 11-0 run. They managed two more baskets in the final 3 minutes and staved off a furious comeback effort to take the close victory and even their season total to five wins against five losses.
