Game 1:  Pratts Shines as P1 Bats Impress

In overcast, drizzly weather, Dave Pratts (W 1-1) made his second pitching start for P1. The Brooklyn native showed better command of his pitch location in this outing, striking out 6 and allowing just one hit in 5 innings for the complete-game victory. He gave up 6 walks and 2 HBP.

Pretender defense was unyielding and committed no errors, while the catching tandem of Dave-Matt Bortz and Terje Hoaas held the Knickers to just one stolen base.

Lithuanian sensation Dom went 4 for 4 with 3 RBIs. Jeff Olchovy blasted a long drive to right-center and reached second even hobbling half-speed on his hurt hamstring. “Bortzy” logged his first P1 hit and was reliable behind the plate in his P1 debut.

P1 batting highlights, by inning:

1st – Terje leadoff single, Dom doubled him home.

3rd – Ryan singled, Dom walked, Dave P singled both home, Alec and Bortzy reached on FCs, Darren reached on catcher’s interference, Terje and Ryan walked, Dom 2-RBI double, Matt RBI single, Dave walked, Alec’s E1 scored two.

5th – Martinius walked, Jeff RBI double, Darren single, Terje RBI single, Ryan 2-RBI double.

Final score: 17–1. Pretender batters drew 7 walks and stroked 15 hits.

Game 2: Connell Earns Another Convincing Win

Starting pitcher Matt Connell (W 2-0) tossed 4 strong innings, having little trouble dispatching the last-place Knickers’ lineup. Matt inflicted 4 Ks and gave up just one run on 3 hits (one of them to a petulant girl). His Pretender teammates played trustworthy defense behind him, and Dom tested his throwing shoulder by closing out the final two innings with 2 Ks and allowing no baserunners.

The game ended 19–1 by mercy rule after 6 innings. P-batters logged 14 H, 9 BB, 14 RBIs.

P1 scoring by inning:

1st – Terje walked, stole 2nd and 3rd and scored on a balk.

2nd – Consecutive singles by Dave, Alec, Martinius, Bortzy and Darren plated 3 runs.

3rd – Singles by Matt, Alec, Martinius and Bortzy, with 4 walks interspersed, netted 6 runs.

4th – Alec walked, stole twice and scored on Marty’s groundout to first base.

5th – Terje’s single, Dom’s majestic triple and Matt’s RBI groundout scored 3 in total.

6th – P1 scored 5 on singles by Alec, Jeff and Darren, and walks by Marty, Terje and Ryan.

*On the day, P1 infielders turned two rally-killing double-plays off line-outs.
