Rud Field, May 25th: Håkon Jåtun pitched a complete-game gem, mixing his effective curveball with a tailing fastball to strike out 5 Royals and allow just 2 runs on 5 hits. Backed by a stellar defense that committed no errors, Hawk retired 18 of the 26 batters he faced. (Meanwhile, Pretender batters logged 37 plate appearances.) The convincing 17-2 victory on Tuesday was encouraging preparation for the Pretenders’ upcoming E-cup tournament in Germany.
The Royals' defense was shaky from the very start, dropping Terje’s sky-high pop-up to start the contest. ØHIL’s starting pitcher received little defensive support as Los Royales committed 5 errors to allow extra baserunners. But Pretender batsmen tallied plenty of legitimate hits – 11 singles and 6 doubles – and also drew 5 walks but struck out 10 times.
Defensive Plays of the Game:
The Earl of Jørgens made an excellent, fearless diving catch in right field… and Are the Comeback was a flawless defender at 3B, making two fine plays (with a borrowed glove), including darting to his left to stab a hot grounder, jumping to his feet and throwing out the batter at first… Leif made several tough defensive assists from SS… Kelly dug out multiple throws to get key outs at 1B and made a running shoestring catch of a soft liner.
At the plate, Kelly drove a 2-RBI double over the left fielder… Terje scored 4 runs, and his hits twice plated Darren, who scored three runs in the game… Daniel scored thrice as well, drove two singles sharply through the middle, and played solid 2B defense… Leif doubled with a line drive over the left fielder, and singled to right field… John Olav blasted a high RBI-double to the left-center gap in his P1 debut.
Top stats:
Terje: 3 for 4, 4 RS, 2 RBI, 3 SB
Darren: 4 for 4, 3 RS, 2 RBI
Daniel: 2 for 4, 3 RS, RBI, SB
Hawk, Kelly & Leif each had 2 RBI.
10 different Pretenders scored.
